Dhabaleswar Temple is devoted to the worship of Lord Shiva. it's situated at a distance of 27 kilometers from the town of Cuttack, within the exotic island of Lord Dhabaleshwar.

The thief prayed fervently to Lord Shiva to deliver him from the gang. Taking pity on him, the Lord appeared as a Sanyassin before the gang and asked them the explanation for their agitation 

On being told that they suspected the thief of hiding within the sanctum alongside the black calf, the sannyasin brought the calf outside to dispel their doubts. 

The calf clothed to be white, seeing which the gang let the thief go. 

The sannyasin disappeared and therefore the thief realized who had come to his aid. He confessed and apologized to the gang. He took a vow to spend the remainder of his life within the service of the Lord. 

The act of turning a black calf to white caused Lord Shiva to be also referred to as Dhabaleswara. The present temple structure was constructed by Bir Kishor, ruler of Khurda. it's said that when he began on a search together with his personal bodyguards and attendants.
